Cryolipolysis, also known as cold body contouring, has proven to be a safe and effective treatment. Your treatment plan will be prescribed by and monitored by a licensed physician. The VAST MAJORITY OF PATIENTS EXPERIENCE NO ADVERSE EFFECTS OR DOWNTIME.
Some patients will experience mild temporary pain or discomfort. Rarely side effects can include redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness to the touch, cramping, itching, tingling, and although very rare, numbness can persist up to several weeks after a procedure.
Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) has been reported as an extremely rare adverse event after cryolipolysis occurring in 0.025 percent of treatment cycles based on data from a manufacturer of cryolipolysis equipment. In this condition, the treated area becomes larger rather than smaller in the weeks after the procedure, leaving a "painless, visibly enlarged, firm, well-demarcated mass" under the skin. Once the area softens it can be removed by traditional liposuction.
You should not have the cryolipolysis procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.
